Everything you need to know about finding and booking local hobby classes, hosting classes, and using our embeddable booking system
For Learners
How do I find classes near me?
Download the HobbiHopp app from the App Store or Google Play. Once you create an account, you can browse local classes on a map or in a list view. Filter by category, date, distance, and price to find the perfect class in your neighborhood.
What if none of the times work for me?
Look for classes marked Anytime. Instead of booking a fixed date, you tell the instructor when suits you and how many of you there are, and they say yes or no. Nothing is charged when you ask - you only pay if they agree, and you get a link to confirm your place. If they cannot make it, or nobody answers within seven days, the request closes on its own and you are welcome to ask again.
Do I need an account to ask for a date?
On the web you can ask with just your name and email - there is no password to invent. We set up an account behind the scenes so the instructor's answer can reach you, and you can sign in to it later with a one-tap email link, or with Google or Apple in the app. Anything you have asked for will be waiting.
How do I find a particular instructor?
Every instructor has their own page listing what they teach, when they are running it, and what past students said. You can browse instructors near you, message them with questions before booking, and ask them to run a class at a time that suits you if they take requests.
How does booking work?
When you find a class you like, tap to see the details, select your preferred session time, choose how many spots you need, and confirm your booking. You pay securely at checkout via Stripe, and both you and the host are notified instantly.
How much does it cost to book a class?
You pay the price set by the host plus a 10% HobbiHopp service fee added at checkout. For example, if a host lists a class at $50, you pay $55. The fee covers secure payment processing, platform support, and ongoing app development - keeping HobbiHopp free to download and the platform running smoothly for everyone.
Can I book for friends or family?
Yes! When booking a class, you can select your party size to book multiple spots. This is perfect for bringing friends to a pottery class or signing up with family members for a cooking workshop.
What if I need to cancel?
You can cancel your booking through the app. Cancellation policies vary by host, but most allow full refunds if cancelled with adequate notice. Check the specific class details for the host's cancellation policy.
Can I message hosts before booking?
Yes! You can message local instructors directly through the app to ask questions about the class, skill level requirements, what to bring, or any other details before you book.
How do reviews work?
After attending a class, you'll receive a prompt to rate your experience. Your reviews help other neighbors discover great local instructors and help hosts improve their classes.
What types of classes are available?
You'll find all kinds of local hobby classes - pottery, cooking, painting, photography, dance, music, crafts, fitness, and more. The selection depends on what instructors in your area are offering, so it's always growing!
For Local Instructors
Can students ask me to run a class at another time?
Yes - turn on Anytime for any class. Students then propose a date and time, and you get a notification and an email with what they asked for, how many people, and what it is worth. You can say yes to their time, suggest a different one, or decline with a reason. Nothing appears on your calendar until you accept, and the student is only charged once you do.
Someone turned up without booking. Can I still take their money?
Yes. Create a walk-in payment link or show them a QR code and they can pay on the spot from their own phone - no app or account needed. The payment lands in your earnings like any other booking, and you can attach it to the class afterwards so they show up on your roll call.
What is the queue?
One list of everything waiting on you: students asking for a date, and walk-in payments that have not been attached to a class yet. You can search, filter and sort it, and it is in both the app and the host web portal. Anything you deal with drops off it.
Who can become a host?
Anyone with a skill they're passionate about sharing! You don't need to be a professional - if you can teach your neighbors something, you can be a host. Home bakers, weekend potters, hobby photographers, and enthusiasts of all kinds are welcome.
How do I become a host?
Visit our Host Portal at hosts.hobbihopp.com and submit a simple application including what you'd like to teach, your contact details, and any optional supporting info. Applications are typically reviewed within 24-48 hours.
What does it cost to list classes?
Listing your classes on HobbiHopp is completely free. There are no monthly fees, no subscription costs, and no setup charges. HobbiHopp adds a 10% service fee to the student price at checkout - you receive 100% of what you set. You only benefit when students book.
How does HobbiHopp's fee work?
We believe in full transparency. HobbiHopp adds a 10% service fee to the student's checkout price - not deducted from your earnings. If you price a class at $60, the student pays $66 and you receive $60. The 10% covers: secure Stripe payment processing, ongoing platform development, and dedicated support for both hosts and students. No hidden charges, ever.
How do I set my prices?
You have full control over your pricing. Set a dollar amount that reflects your expertise, class duration, materials provided, and the value you offer. You can adjust prices anytime. The price you set is exactly what you receive.
Can I create recurring classes?
Yes! You can create one-time workshops or set up recurring classes on a regular schedule. Many hosts offer weekly sessions that build a community of regular attendees.
How and when do I get paid?
Payments are processed monthly and transferred securely to your bank account. If you need access to your earnings sooner, you can request an early payment by submitting a support ticket through the Host Portal.
What if a student doesn't show up?
If a student doesn't show up without canceling, you still receive payment for their booking. Our policies protect your time and effort as a host.
How do I manage my bookings?
Use the Host Portal to see who's signed up for your classes, manage capacity, communicate with students from your community, and mark attendance. Everything is in one simple dashboard.
Can I embed a booking system on my own website?
Yes! HobbiHopp includes a free embeddable booking and payment widget you can add to any website - Squarespace, Wix, Webflow, WordPress, or custom HTML. Students book and pay directly on your site without being redirected anywhere. You can customize the colors and styling to match your brand.
Do my students need to download the app to book through my website?
No. If you use the embeddable booking page on your own website, students can discover, book, and pay for your hobby classes without downloading anything. After booking, they receive a personal magic link to view and manage all their upcoming classes - no app required.
What is the HobbiHopp booking system and how does it work?
The HobbiHopp booking system is a white-label booking and payment tool designed for hobby class instructors. Once approved as a host, you get an embeddable widget to add to your website. It shows your upcoming classes, handles online payments via Stripe, manages capacity, and sends students a magic link to track their bookings. It's free to use - HobbiHopp only takes a small commission on successful bookings.
